William Ackerley
- Private - 58164 York and Lancaster Regiment. At the time William attested in February 1918 he was attached to the Manchester Regiment, 53rd Battalion. At this time William was
living at 2 Sunnyside St, Salford. He was transferred to the York & Lancs 16/08/1918 and his service record shows that he was detained as a prisoner of war for a short period in 1918. William married Frances Lovett 01/02/1919 and they lived at 9 Hutchinson St, Salford. He was demobilised 26/11/1919.
In February 1921 he joined the Lancashire Fusiliers (3437539) on one years service at this time he was living at 22 Mottram St, Salford.

Harry lived at 21 Oxford St, Salford. He was the Brother-in-Law of Victor Winspear.

- Driver - 219537 Royal Engineers 402 Field Coy. Lived at 7 Huddart St, Salford with his wife Esther and children Hilda, Arthur, George Albert and Vera Monica.
Joseph was born in Chapeltown Leeds. Prior to the war he had worked as a Tailors Cutter at 111 Regent Rd, Salford. He attested 10/10/1915 aged 37 and never served abroad.

Arthur Bryden - 2nd Lt - Lancashire Fusiliers 5th Battalion. George first served with the Royal Army Medical Corp (78919) and then commissioned to the Lancashire Fusiliers 5th Battalion. He was awarded the Military Cross and the following report can be found in the London Gazette. He lived at 7 Regent Square, Salford.

William Henry Carpenter
- Private - 75056 Royal Army Medical Corps.
Prior to the war William worked as a driver. He lived at 183 Regent Rd with his wife Emilie and his son Ernest. He joined the RAMC in October 1915 aged 41 and was discharged in December 1916 due to poor health. As William never served abroad no medals where issued to him.

He lived at 48 Rudman St, Salford.

William Colman
- Private - 201946 Kings Shropshire Light Infantry 6th Battalion.  He lived at 146 Tatton St, Salford with his wife Charlotte and his three children Alice, Edith and Arthur.
Prior to the war William was a house painter. He enlisted 10/12/1915 at the age of 37 and sent to France 16/06/1917.

Joseph lived at 59 King Edward St, Salford.

- Private - WR/20261 (originally 220693) Royal Engineers.
He lived at 8 Regent Square, Salford.

Sapper - 248224 Royal Engineers. Edward first served with the Lancashire Fusiliers (19-18712).
He lived at 35 Rudman St, Salford.
 

 


Thomas Parker Cornthwaite

Thomas lived with his mother Mary Jane at 11 Huddart St, Salford.  Born Milnthorpe, Cumberland.Brother of John and William (see below).
 

 


John Robinson Cornthwaite
- Driver -  104768 Royal Field Artillery 26th Battery.
John attested 27/07/1915 and was posted to France 16/01/1916. He was transferred to the reserves 14/07/1919. He lived with his mother Mary Jane at 11 Huddart St, Salford. John was born in Milnthorpe, Cumberland. Brother of Thomas and William (see above and below).
 

 


William Henry Cornthwaite
- Private - 33575 Kings Own Royal Lancashire Regiment 8th Battalion.
William lived with his mother Mary Jane at 11 Huddart St, Salford. Born Milnthorpe, Cumberland. Brother of Thomas and John (see above).
 

 


Robert Cragg
- Private - 7206 Loyal North Lancashire Regiment 1st Battalion. Robert enlisted in Preston 30/07/1903 aged 19.
Robert served in Gibraltar and South Africa during 1904 to 1906 and transferred to reserves 29/07/1906. He rejoined the LNL 1st Battalion at the outbreak of the war and was posted to France 12/08/1914 where he suffered a wound (left knee) 26/09/1914. Robert was discharged 22/04/1916 due to cataracts caused by being struck by lightening while serving in South Africa (although the examining doctor is sceptical as to cause of cataracts).  Robert re-enlisted 23/03/1917 as Private 62434 with the 16th South Lancashire Regiment and was discharged 20/02/1919 achieving the rank of Sergeant.
Robert was born in Barrow, on enlistment in 1903 his mother Elizabeth lived at 8 Germany Street, Lancaster. His address on discharge (1919) was 41 Oxford St, Salford.
 

 


William Cranston
- Private - 280855 Lancashire Fusiliers 1/7 Battalion.
He lived at 21 Huddart St, Salford.
 

 


William Crawford
- Private - 305744 Lancashire Fusiliers 5th Battalion.
He lived at 47 Tatton St, Salford.
 

 


Thomas Cross
- Bombardier - 86395 A66th Royal Field Artillery.
Thomas attested 17/08/1914 aged 19, he embarked for Gallipoli 14/06/1915 and then to Alexandria 10/01/1916. In 1917 he served in India where he was granted one months leave. He was promoted to Corporal in 1919.             
Prior to the war Thomas lived with his parents (Father, Jarvis) at 41 Rudman St, Salford and had worked as a clerk.
 

 


Arthur W Cuddeford
- Private - South Wales Borderers.
He lived at 49 Regent Square, Salford. Son of William Henry and Eleanor Cuddeford. My searches for a medal card have proved fruitless, I can only assume that Arthur never served abroad.
 

 


Robert Harris Cuddeford
- Private - 57102 Kings Own Liverpool Regiment 1/7 Battalion.
He lived at 49 Regent Square, Salford. Son of William Henry and Eleanor Cuddeford.

John Dearden
- Sapper - 46490 Royal Engineers.
He disembarked in France 11/09/1915 and was demobilised 15/03/1919.
John was born 16/03/1889 in Texas, USA. 
 

 


George Delaney
- Lance Corporal - 10484 Manchester Regiment 18th Battalion (3rd City). Son of James and Mary Elizabeth, 5 Huddart St, Salford.
Prior to the war George had worked as a Maker Up in a packing warehouse at Sillitoe and Seares, 52 Princess St, Manchester. He attested 05/09/1915 aged 22 and was sent to France 18/11/1915. George was wounded twice and was discharged 01/02/1918 (No longer physically fit for duty).
 

 


Herbert James Delaney
- Lance Corporal - 16594 Royal Engineers. Son of James and Mary Elizabeth, Son of James and Mary Elizabeth, 5 Huddart St, Salford.
On October 19th 1918 the Salford Reporter reported that Herbert, 23 years of age, was seriously ill in hospital at Alexandria, Egypt.
 

 


Charles Delaney - Private - 28757 Loyal North Lancashire Regiment 9th Battalion. Son of James and Mary Elizabeth, 5 Huddart St, Salford.
On October 19th 1918 the Salford Reporter reported that Charles, at the age of 20, had been taken Prisoner of War and was detained in Frankfurt, Germany. The report also states that he had attended Mount Carmel School.
 

 


Thomas Henry Delaney
- Corporal - 34808 Royal Engineers. He lived at 48 Gloucester St, Salford.
 

 


Walter Hine Dickinson
- Private - 30134 70th Training Reserve Battalion. Walter attested 12/12/1915 aged 34 and demobilised 10/10/1917 "No longer physically fit for War Service" due to Phthisis Pulmonalis (Tuberculosis) which had originated in his childhood. This may be the reason why Walter never served abroad.
Walter lived at 24 Coronation St, Salford with his wife Clara Elizabeth and his children Florence May & Walter Hine (Jr).
 

 


Fred Dorber - Private - 32448 Devon Regiment and later with the Military Foot Police (P17258). He lived at 35 Regent Square, Salford. Brother of John Henry Dorber who was Killed in Action 19/04/1916.

Walter Howarth
Eaves - Corporal - 29718 Lancashire Fusiliers 16th Battalion.
Walter lived at 47 Regent Square, Salford with his father Albert. Born in Preston the son of Albert and Alice. He attested 13/10/1915 aged 24 and landed in France 23/06/1916. Wounded 15/04/1917 (GSW neck) and demobilised 17/03/1919.
Prior to the war Walter had worked as a Book Keeper.

Arthur Elliott

Private - 82256 Durham Light Infantry 20th Battalion. Arthur first served with the Manchester Regiment (63687), he lived at 11 Regent Square, Salford with his parents George and Annie Elliott.
Prior to the war Arthur had worked as a Warehouse Man. He attested 17/01/1917 aged 17.

- Private - 44578 Labour Corps, he first served with the Liverpool Regiment (68040). He lived at 11 Regent Square, Salford with his parents George and Annie Elliott.

Walter Evans
- Sergeant - 13085 Rifle Brigade. He lived at 168 Tatton St, Salford.

Frank Evans
- Private - 40732 Lancashire Fusiliers. Frank attested, aged 26 years and 11 months, 22/11/1915 and first joined the 14th Manchester Regiment (29731) on the 20/6/1916 he was transferred to the 2/1st Yorks Hussars (3825), the 2/1st Yorks converted to a cyclist unit in July 1916, so Frank then serves with the Army Cyclist Corps (2099). He was then transferred to the Lancashire Fusiliers (40732) and embarked for France 12/09/1917.
Prior to the war Frank had worked as a labourer and lived at 79 Oxford St, Salford with his wife Alice Cecilia Evans and daughter Millicent (who was born at 39 Regent Square, Salford).

- Private - 41058 North Staffordshire Regiment 9th Battalion. Herbert first served with the Kings Own Liverpool Regiment (406125), he lived at 39 Regent Square, Salford.
